When do we use Present Continuous?
For actions happening right now and temporary situations
Present Continuous describes actions that are happening at this exact moment, temporary situations, and plans for the near future. Look for signal words like "now" or "at the moment"!
Something is in progress at this very moment — you can almost see it happening.
Mia is drawing a picture right now.
happening at this moment
Look! The cat is sleeping on the sofa.
"Look!" = signal word
They are playing football at the moment.
"at the moment" = signal word
Something is true now but not permanently — it will change.
Mia is staying at her grandma's this week.
temporary, not permanent
He is working in London this month.
temporary situation
Arrangements already decided — you know when and where.
We are meeting at the park tomorrow.
arranged plan
Mia is performing in the show on Friday.
fixed future plan
NOT for habits! "I am going to school every day" is WRONG. Use Present Simple for routines: "I go to school every day."
